Faith & Discipline
The Weekday Devotional
Get five short readings a week...delivered right to your inbox. My promise to you is to dive as deep as I'm able and give you everything I have.
I'll be honest...I started writing these because I needed them. The quarterly planning sessions, the LinkedIn posts, the next big move...none of it tells you who you are at 4:47 am when the house is quiet and the inbox isn't loaded yet. Scripture does. And Scripture has a lot more to say about leaders than most of us have ever bothered to hear.
That's what this is.
Each one is rooted in Scripture...lands in your real work...and asks questions you've probably been avoiding.
I try to be as practical and challenging as possible.
If that's you...I'd be honored to share a small part of your day.

The 5K Streak
It'll be really easy for you to read this as some dude pounding his chest about how he has done a 5K every day for 2,473 days straight.
And to be honest, I do have pride around this…but not in the way you think.
I'll get to that in a minute.
Rewind to July 2019 and I felt the Lord nudging me to think through the significance of what turning 33 meant. I knew Jesus died at 33, but it hadn't really connected deeply with me until I was about to turn 33 myself.
There's more to this story that will eventually be found in my book…more on that later…but just know this:
Our loving Father was poking me in the forehead.
Hard.
He was lovingly challenging me and showing me something I didn't want to confront:
That from 30 to 33 years old, I had spent so much of my energy building things that looked successful outwardly…while neglecting the things that mattered eternally.
Even harder?
He showed me how much I thought I understood discipline…while actually knowing very little about true discipline.
Especially spiritual discipline.
Ouch.
It was a few weeks before my 33rd birthday that I heard a still, small voice say:
"Do 3.3 miles a day."
I know without a doubt it was the Lord telling me exactly what I needed in that season.
And this is where that pride comes in.
I'm proud that I was obedient enough to simply say:
"Okay."
Because that single act of obedience changed everything.
What started as a physical challenge quickly became something much deeper.
The 5K was never really about running.
It became about surrender.
About consistency.
About learning how God shapes a person through ordinary faithfulness.
About discovering that discipline is far less about intensity and far more about abiding.
Every year since 2019, the Lord has taught me something different through this journey. Sometimes gently. Sometimes painfully. But always faithfully.
And now, this journey continues.
The goal is to do this for 10 straight years and then celebrate that milestone by taking the run across the United States.
But honestly?
The miles are no longer the point.
The deeper lesson has been discovering how much God can do through the slow, repeated, ordinary act of showing up.
One day at a time.
One step at a time.
One surrendered "yes" at a time.
And this is where you come in.
Because I don't believe this story is ultimately about running.
I think it's about invitation.
An invitation to pursue consistency in your walk with God.
An invitation to rediscover discipline not as punishment, but as devotion.
An invitation to realize that transformation usually doesn't happen in one giant moment…
It happens through thousands of small moments of obedience that nobody else sees.
I simply want to help you find your own "5K journey."
The thing God may be calling you to pursue that stretches your faith, deepens your dependence on Him, and transforms you over time in ways you never expected.
And somewhere along the way…
you may just discover that God was never after your performance.
He was after your heart.
When the book is ready, it'll come out here first.
